WINDOWS HANDOUT

Every computer should have:

An anti-virus program (AVG at grisoft.com is free), WinZip, a PDF writer such as free PDF995.com

Every computer user should be able to:

Navigate Windows Explorer: Copy, Paste, Rename a file

            Find their eMail files for backup (C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{big long number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ dat files

Back up Data, not Programs. Data can be moved to other folders -- Programs can't.

Use WordPad -- the free word processor

Edit a file without opening the appropriate editing program.

Find your My Documents folder at C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents

eMail

Do NOT send mail to all your friends until you validate that it is not a HOAX.

Don't open attachments from the ones most likely to send you a virus -- your friends! Call them to verify.

When you get an email & need to send it: Forward, Reply, Reply All -- Clean it up -- its edible. Remove ">"

To remove ">" and other nasties, copy it into WordPad, Replace, Copy it back.

You do NOT need to fill in TO or CC: just fill in BCC:  Each will think you sent it only to him.

You do Not need to click TO or CC or BCC: just type the first letter of the person's email name. And Again.

Do NOT attach large files: Nobody will get them. Check the size of Pictures you scanned.  900k is plenty.
